RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN ENGINES

The development of new fuels contributes to the energy sources diversification as well as to reduce pollutant emissions, and it represents an increasing challenge for the current society. For that reason, LAM has paid special attention to the application of biofuels in engines, and mainly to the use of biodiesel. This kind of fuel contributes to reduce the diesel engine pollutant emissions, and it also enables an easy reformulation of the new low sulfur content fuel oils. A European research project and several national ones confirm the group activities in this field. Moreover, the group has taken part in a European and a national project related to the use of biogas in spark ignition engines. Finally, it must be highlighted that the use of bioalcohol in engines is other field in which activities of interest are carried out.
